As we start the new Scouting Autumn term, there are a few updates. Firstly I hope everyone had a good summer, took advantage of the glorious weather we have had, and managed to get away on camp, if only for a few days.
As most of you will be aware I am stepping down from the District Commissioner role by the end of the year, and the role has now been advertised.  Since HANDS is such a large district, it has been agreed that the role could be a job share and carried out by more than one person.  If you know of anyone who would be willing to take on the role then please let them know and encourage them to apply.  A Scouting background is not essential, but skills in management and team leading are required.  In the interim it will be business as usual for me until someone else is appointed.
Sadly due to lack of entries the Scout Sedan Chair race scheduled for September 22nd will be postponed until the Spring.  The date will be announced soon, so please put it in your diaries when it is and enter a team.
Other District events taking place this term are the Jamboree on the Air/Jamboree on the Internet on the weekend of October 20/21st. Information on this will be coming out shortly and it is hoped to open it up to all sections this year.
In November we have the Stray bonfire event, at which several groups provide the catering and usually manage to raise a lot of funds for their groups.  This year the event is on November 3rd.
The following weekend we take part in the Remembrance Day events around the District.  This year Remembrance Sunday falls on November 11th and is the centenary of the ending of the First World War.
A reminder to all leaders to send in their programmes for the Autumn term, and the year ahead if you have them.  They should be sent to Nicholas, ddcprog.hands@nys.org.uk, but any dates when you are out of the hut should be sent to me at the usual email address.
